Have you ever thought about flying? About how things look from above? Drones give us the chance to enjoy the sky and see things from a different perspective. With awesome video quality and a big range of possibilities for business development, drones have opened new opportunities for everyone.
In Canada, the drone industry has been growing exponentially. Sales have grown every year and technology innovates every day to adapt drones to different needs and operations. And the public is more and more interested in what they can do with them.
We know how difficult and tedious it can be to learn so many rules, instructions, theory and data around a specific subject matter. So many details and simulations can get complicated if you don’t have the proper tools and content. So we are here to help you navigate your way around the drone industry and how to get your professional pilot certificate.
Do I need a license to fly a drone in Canada?
Yes, you do require a license to fly in Canada.
Transport Canada, working together with industry professionals, developed Regulations and Public Safety Standards to keep the public and manned aviation safe while ensuring efficiency in drone operations.
With regulations for short-range flight in effect, and new types of operations being evaluated, every pilot needs to be certified and registered based on the type of operations they are going to conduct. To be able to fly your drone you require a license – Basic or Advanced.
How do I get certified as a drone pilot?
First, you need to decide what type of drone pilot certification you are looking for.
A Basic Operations License will allow you to enjoy flying under basic regulations – distance from bystanders, uncontrolled flying areas, etc.; and take the Small Basic Exam which will allow you to print your Pilot Certificate – Basic Operations once you pass.
An Advanced Operations License will require you to register your drone with Transport Canada (you can do it here), pass the Small Advanced Exam online, and complete a Flight Review with a registered flight reviewer.
Both types of certifications are based on the Knowledge Requirements for Pilots of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, but it is highly recommended to take a course with an official Drone Flight School since these requirements are not a study guide, as stated by Transport Canada.
PREFLYY – An Online RPAS Training Program
Knowing this, we partnered with FLYY – Professional Drone Alliance and Indro Robotics to create PREFLYY – a course that could offer a different and unique learning experience. One that would enhance the understanding and perception of the future pilot through interactive learning activities and high-quality content developed by industry leaders.
We kept something in mind. We want the learner – you – to not only be certified but to acquire the capabilities of a Professional Drone Pilot to pass the exam and take on the flight review with confidence. This means that you’ll be able to build upon your skills and capacities and learn details that will help you get the best results in your basic and advanced operations.
Why choose PREFLYY?
Combining our expertise in the aviation and drone industry, safety and security, and online education, we developed a completely interactive Transport Canada Certified RPAS Training Program.
Our course will prepare you to acquire both Basic + Advanced certifications to become a Professional Drone Pilot. This program is 100% online and it includes interactive activities that range from quizzes to Situational Awareness to Aerodynamics simulations and examples.
